(If I Were Mad / If I Were a Mystic)

Original theme:

Translation:

If I were mad—
mad in that sacred way,

there would be only You and I.
Your name would rest upon my cup,
and even poison would turn to nectar.

Streams of tears might flow for all,
yet a single drop would rise to You.
That one drop would wash away
the sins of countless lifetimes.

If I were mad—
there would be only You and I.

I never asked for anything,
for giving and taking are Your will.
Birth and death rest in Your hands,
this life too moves by Your command.
Within and without—only You exist,
had I understood just this much…

If I were mad—
there would be only You and I.

🔹 Note:

(The Mirror Kept Saying)

Original theme:

Translation:

The mirror kept saying—
“I know you well.”

And I kept denying,
thinking it read only my mask.

Yet someone sits hidden
within my own self,
day and night two reflections
locked in silent conflict.

Was moonlight ever separate from the moon?
Is sunlight distinct from the sun?
Know this eternal truth—
see the world as divine.

The Supreme Light cannot be seen,
yet it lights the lamp of wisdom within.
As consciousness, the Divine dwells in all,
awakening even what appears lifeless.

🔹 Note:

(My Orchard Is Calling Me)

Original theme:

Translation:

O birds flying across the sky,
rest your wings for a while—
my orchard is calling you.

You will reach a place
where once there was a village,
now swallowed whole by the city;
where a village square once breathed.

Mango, neem, banyan, peepal—
their cool shadows are gone.
Even their remains have vanished,
only silence spreads.

Ponds have dried into history,
water shelters are only memories.
Even clouds no longer pause,
shade has stopped arriving.

🔹 Note:

(Who Is Knocking?)

Original theme:

Translation:

Who is knocking at the door of pain?
Why sow another’s sorrow
inside your own heart?

Hanging your joys on rusty nails,
you walk barefoot upon thorns,
leaving behind the bed of flowers.

When compassion awakens,
even a thief becomes a poet.
While the world sleeps,
a silent seeker stays awake.

🔹 Note:

(The Fabric of Life)

Original theme:

Translation:

Whenever the threads of life scattered,
Your grace rained down.
Whenever I stood alone within,
the crowd dissolved—
only You remained.

In that single moment lived fully,
I tasted centuries in an instant.

समापन टिप्पणी (for academic use)

“Vidyullata” is not merely a poetic collection but a spiritual-literary text, where:

  • Devotion becomes philosophy

  • Nature becomes memory

  • Society becomes conscience

  • And the self dissolves into the Absolute
